WARNING: Facebook Scam On the Loose, Steals Passwords (via Mashable)

April 29th, 2009 by Sarah Barnes

There is a Facebook scam that Mashable was warning about today.  In case you haven’t yet read the warning:

WARNING: Facebook Scam On the Loose, Steals Passwords

Facebook is falling prey to a widespread phishing attack today that tries to steal your login and spam your friends.

I’ve got a number of messages in my Facebook inbox with links to “FBAction.net”, a site that displays a fake Facebook login. Enter your details there, and it will spam all your friends with the same message and link. More worrying: you might get locked out of your account for a time until Facebook sorts out this mess.

There is no malicious payload with the attack, it seems: no virus is downloaded or any other nasties: it’s simply a huge nuisance for Facebook users.

As always, don’t enter your Facebook password if the URL is not Facebook.com, and contact Facebook if you’re no longer able to access your account.

This damn phishing mail came to my inbox as well – as if it was sent by one of my contacts in facebook. Fortunately I don’t open such mails from facebook, twitter etc.

I am having a very hard time signing in my Face book it wilnot acept my pass word I have used the same password with my e-mail aadress for 9 years and I get so dam upset when it does not except it The reason I use that Pass word is it is my amature radio call sign I use it because I can’t remember anything else .
I have tried other ones butwhen I put them away I forget where they are or I nhave about 3 others I have used and forgot what I had used them with. I would hope that someone understands That all I want to use is my Call sign and everything would be just fine again.

I got it the email too and it’s really sad. Had it happening to my yahoo account before and ended up having to apologize to all my friends.

Thank you for the information. My father sent me a email recently asking me why I was contacting him in this way, and I did not have a clue of what he was referring to. It seems that someone has gotten hold of my email addresses and is contacting them all, claiming to be me.
I thought it was through Linkden, or Twitter, but now it makes sense.
